About the Project

We believe golf is more than a game.

At its best, golf has the power to shape landscapes, strengthen communities and create places that endure for generations. It is woven into the fabric of towns and cities, cultures and coastlines, connecting people not only to the game itself, but to the places in which it is played.

Yet golf does not exist in isolation. Every course sits within a wider landscape. Every development becomes part of a community. Every decision leaves a legacy. We believe those who build, operate and steward golf courses have a responsibility to think beyond the fairways and consider the lasting impact their work has on people and place.

Ground Golf Project exists to explore these ideas. Through stories, essays and observations from the world of golf development, we document the people, philosophies and projects that inspire us. We are interested in architecture, culture, community, stewardship and the role golf can play as a force for good.

We do not claim to have all the answers. Instead, this publication is an invitation to think in public. To celebrate what golf gets right, to question what it gets wrong, and to explore how thoughtful development can create lasting value for landscapes, communities and the game itself.

Because the best golf courses are not simply built. They are rooted in the ground beneath them, shaped by the people around them and defined by the legacy they leave behind.
